The
dimensions of the pond will depend on the geographical location of
the plot and water source Normally, the expense will around 80 paisa to 1 rupee per
liter of water stored. The
rates will be slightly varied depending on the nature of the land.
The work of setting up a pond mainly involves the following steps:
Making a big right shaped pit by
digging the land.
Forming available crunch.
One layered HDPE sheet laying.
Carefully covering the big pit with UV
sterilized sheets.
One layer 90% shade net laying.
The bottom of the pond is fill with
clean sand for about 1.5cm thickness.
The borders of the pond thus made are
covered with soil and mud and suitable type of grass is grown on
that.
If the pond is for storing water
for human consumption, it will be covered with a frame and plastic
sheet to keep the water safe from sunlight.
If the pond is for fish farming,
the bottom surface must be covered with good quality soil to assist
the growth of micro-organisms. Also suitable quantity of cow-dung is
mixed with the water in the pond to facilitate the growth of micro
flora and fauna which becomes the necessary fish-food.
